Woman Finds Her Lost Dog After Nine Years

July 25th, 2024

A woman named Judith Monarrez has a small dog, Gizmo. Nine years ago, Gizmo got lost from their house in Las Vegas. Judith was very sad and looked for him but could not find him. During the time Gizmo was gone, Judith did many things. She got a higher education and started teaching. She moved to a new house too. But she never forgot her dog and hoped to find him. One day, someone found Gizmo and took him to an animal hospital. They checked a special chip in Gizmo and knew he belonged to Judith. They sent Judith an email to tell her they found her dog. Judith was so happy, she cried. She went to the hospital and took Gizmo home. She calls it a miracle. Now, they are happy to be together again. Gizmo is not the same. He is scared of things like shadows and birds. He walks with a bit of a limp, and he is sick. Judith says he looks different, but when she saw his eyes at the hospital, she knew it was her Gizmo. Now Judith and her family are taking good care of Gizmo. They are giving him all the love they saved for him while he was gone. They want to make him feel better and loved. There is a new rule in Las Vegas that says people with pets like dogs and cats should use these special chips. It helped Judith find Gizmo, and she is very glad she used it.

Overpopulation of domestic pets
In some places, there are too many pets like cats, dogs, and different kinds of animals. In the United States, many animals go to shelters every year and some of them, even the healthy ones, do not find homes and are put to sleep. People are encouraged to fix their pets so they do not have more babies that no one can take care of. Having too many pets that no one wants is a big problem. It can hurt the natural world when pets are set free outside. It also costs a lot of money to take care of these animals. In Bahrain, there are more and more dogs on the streets. People have been scared or hurt by them, and some puppies have been treated very badly. Since 2014, a group in Bahrain has been asking for help to catch, fix, and let the dogs go back to where they were found. This helps stop more babies being born and helps keep people and farms safe. A woman named Sheikha Marwa is also making a place where stray dogs can be taken care of.

Republic of Haiti (1820–1849)
Haiti is a country that was once split into two parts. The south part was called the Republic of Haiti, and the north part was called the Kingdom of Haiti. They were divided after a leader named Dessalines was killed long ago. A leader named Henri Christophe took control of the north and called himself a king. Another leader named Alexandre Pétion took charge of the south and became the president. In 1820, something important happened. The two parts of Haiti came together. A man named Jean-Pierre Boyer helped make this happen. He became the leader of the whole country. During this time, Haiti also took control of a place called Santo Domingo for a while. But Boyer was very strict and wanted to be in charge for his whole life. This is called being an "authoritarian." This time when Boyer was in charge lasted until 1843. Then in 1849, a new leader named Faustin Soulouque decided he wanted to be an emperor, which started a different time in Haiti's history called the Second Empire. So even though the country was called a republic, it was really ruled by just one man, Boyer, for a long time.

Animal rescue group
Some people love to help animals that do not have homes. They work with groups that find homes for pets who are lost, not wanted, or hurt. Most of these helpers do not get paid; they just want to take care of animals. They keep the animals in their own houses and give them food, love, and help them learn how to be good pets. They do this until they can find a family that will take care of the animal forever. There are groups for all kinds of pets like lizards, rabbits, and birds, but most groups help dogs and cats. There are even special groups for certain kinds of dogs, like Labradors or big dogs. Some groups also help wild animals like lions. These wild animals might be set free again or kept safe if they are in danger. There is a big website called Petfinder.org that helps people find animals to adopt. It lists lots of places where animals are waiting for homes in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The American Kennel Club also has information about groups that help find homes for purebred dogs. Animal shelters that have too many pets sometimes work with these groups. If the shelter doesn't have enough space, the group can help by finding people who can keep the pets in their homes for a little while. Some groups even take care of older pets until they find a home.
