Blockbuster got very big and at one point in 2004, it had a lot of stores all over the world and many people worked for them. But after some time, Blockbuster started to have problems. They didn't make good choices and there was a very bad time for money around the world. Also, other companies like Netflix, which sent movies by mail, and Redbox, which had movie rental machines, became popular. This made Blockbuster lose a lot of money. In 2010, Blockbuster had to ask for help because they had no money. The next year, another company bought them, but by 2014 most of the stores were closed. There were still some Blockbuster stores that were owned by other people. But in 2019, almost all of them were closed too. Now, there is only one Blockbuster store left. It is in a place called Bend in the United States. David Cook, who started Blockbuster, first had a different business in the 1970s that didn't do very well. His wife wanted to have a video business. So, using money from his old business, David decided to buy into a video store in Dallas. But he ended up starting his own store, and that's how Blockbuster began.
