"Rust" is an anticipated Western film set in the 1880s in Kansas, chronicling the gripping tale of an elder outlaw, Harland Rust, portrayed by Alec Baldwin, who emerges from seclusion to save his young grandson, Lucas, from a death penalty for an unintended killing. Together, they become fugitives, escaping not only Rust's adversary, U.S. Marshal Wood Helm, but also a relentless bounty hunter named Fenton "Preacher" Lang. The production of the film, written and directed by Joel Souza, has been marked by significant challenges. During a tragic event in October 2021, cinematographer Halyna Hutchins lost her life and Souza was injured when Baldwin discharged a prop firearm. This harrowing incident led to a pause in filming and spurred a series of legal actions. In the face of this adversity, filming was planned to restart in January 2023. However, Baldwin faced involuntary manslaughter charges that raised uncertainties about his continuing role in the project.
