I was an English Teacher in South Korea for 6 months teaching children aged 3 to 13. My classes varied from phonics studies to more active ‘circle time’ class discussions or debate class with my older students.

In Japan, I worked part-time tutoring all ages English for one year. Mostly I worked with younger children, but I also had many classes with adults and mature learners.

For the last few years, I have also been tutoring young adults in beginner Japanese. I create my own curriculum based on the interests of my students.

For 2 years, I worked at a traditional inn in Japan. I was in charge or translating material for guests and interpreting for the chef and seventh generation owner. I also helped teach the Japanese staff key English required for the job.

Interests: I am half American and half Scottish. I was raised in Scotland but held on to my American accent somehow. I studied Japanese and Linguistics at the University of Edinburgh and since then have been moving around teaching and learning. I have lived for two years in Japan, working, studying and tutoring English. I also lived in South Korea for six months teaching at an English School. Lately, I have been refocusing on studying French as I prepare to move to Canada!
I also love art and crafts. I'm always painting, sketching, or learning how to embroider or crochet. I have a lot of fun learning how to make new things.

Education: Bachelor Degree in Japanese and Linguistics at the University of Edinburgh

I graduated in 2020 with a upper second class double honours degree of Japanese and Linguistics. I wrote my dissertation in Linguistics and took many modules on language acquisition and second-language learning both for adults and children.

Year abroad with intensive language study at Doshisha University
Education
I studied for a year at Doshisha University in Kyoto. My studies mostly focused on advanced Japanese study with some cultural and linguistics classes too.

Study Abroad at the Catholic University of the West in Angers, France
Education
I studied French intensively in the CIDEF programme in Angers, France. During this time, my French reached B2 level.

Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N2
Education
In 2022, I passed the second highest level of the Japanese language proficiency test. I am still in my studies to reach the highest level.
