Interests: Hello, my name is Marwa Hassan! I'm an Egyptian-American Muslim; born in New York but grew up in Durham, North Carolina. I'm bilingual, with Arabic being my first language and English being my native language. My interest in teaching English started in college. During my sophomore year, I was invited to attend an interest meeting for the JET program, which introduced me to the possibility of teaching English in Japan. Intrigued by the concept, I decided to minor in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), where I took classes on linguistics, curriculum design, international relations, etc. I even enrolled in 2 years of Japanese courses to learn more about the people and culture. What started as a subject I started on a whim suddenly became a true potential career path for me. And as someone who grew up with multiple languages and has struggled herself with the never-ending process that is language learning, I understand what acquiring a new language does for a person. It unlocks a new part of an individual and opens various opportunities to experience new things, gain a broader perspective, and meet and connect with new people. I want people to learn more about the world and the people around them, and I believe communication is the key! If possible, I want to help people explore a new language and help them unlock that part of themselves.

A little about me personally is that I love animals, being in nature, watching anime and old childhood cartoons, exercising and playing sports, drawing, traveling, and trying new things. If I could describe myself in three words, they would be: passionate, down-to-earth, and adventurous.
